Police Department

The Dracut Police Department is a full service community oriented police agency consisting of thirty-seven sworn officers, four full-time and nine part-time police dispatchers. Additional administrative staff includes; one executive assistant, two records clerks, and two animal control positions, along with a custodian, a maintenance mechanic and two crossing guards. Two additional patrol officers will graduate from the Lowell Police Academy in October.

The department will be seeking input from citizens and key stakeholders as we collaborate to formulate a more focused vision for the department. Planned initiatives include the department hosting a Citizen’s Police Academy in early October, to allow the public to see first-hand what role police officers and dispatchers play in the safety of our community. Additionally, participants will learn about traffic stops and responding to various calls for service, to allow citizens to gain a better understanding as to why officers conduct themselves the way that they do in these situations. The program will culminate with a four hour ride-a-long with a police officer on patrol.

The Goal of the department is to deliver exceptional police services while exhibiting compassion and respect to citizens and visitors to our community. As we move forward this website will be updated to allow for real-time communications with our external customers, in an attempt to apprise them of newsworthy events and unfolding situations within the community
