Lowell Regional Transit Authority

The LRTA services eleven communities providing fixed route bus service for 1.3 million passengers annually in six cities and towns and serves 65.00 elderly and disabled citizens through Council on Aging and the LRTA Road Runner Program.

The service operates continually between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm.

The LRTA serves area population of 300,000 people. Its operating budget is 5.2 million annually employing over 200 people through its private transportation contractors who provide a substantial positive economic impact on our region.

The Town of Dracut receives the following services through its participation in the Lowell Regional Transit Authority:

  • Fixed Route Service: The LRTA provides transportation to over 311,410 fixed route bus passengers from the Town of Dracut annually. The service operates Monday through Friday from 6:55am - 5:35pm (11 round trips) and Saturday from 8:00am - 4:35pm (5 round trips). As part of its total fixed route operation to five communities the LRTA provides vehicles, maintenance, drivers, insurance, administration and State and Federal capital and operating assistance for this service.
  • Road Runner Service: The LRTA provides Road Runner transportation on Mondays and Fridays to nearly 1,643 elderly and disabled Dracut residents from 8:00am - 5:00pm. As part of its total  Road Runner operation to eight communities the LRTA provides vehicles, maintenance, drivers, insurance, administration and State and Federal capital and operating assistance for this services.

  • Council on Aging Service: The LRTA provides a vehicle and operating assistance to the Dracut Council on Aging. This service provides over 6,423 rides annually for elderly and disabled residents. It operates Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 4:00pm.
