Board and Committee Opportunities Get Involved in Your Community Apply for open positions now!

The Town of Dracut is currently accepting letters of interest from residents who would like to serve on Town of Dracut boards and committees. Serving on a board or committee is a meaningful way to support your community and take part in local decision-making.

As of October 15th, 2025, the following Boards & Committees have openings:

Open Boards & Committees Positions:

Board of Selectmen Appointed:

  • Agricultural Commission – 1 Opening
  • Dracut Cultural Council – 2 Openings
  • Planning Board, 2nd Alternate – 1 Opening

Town Manager Appointed:

  • Board of Assessor's – 3 Openings
  • Sewer Commission - 1 Opening

Town Moderator Appointed:

  • Finance Committee – 2 Openings

About the Committees

Board of Assessors

The Board of Assessors is responsible for determining the full and fair cash value of all real and personal property in Dracut for tax purposes. Members play a critical role in ensuring fair and equitable property assessments, which directly impact municipal revenue and the services provided to residents.

Day-to-day operations are handled by professional staff, while Board members focus on setting policy and rendering decisions.

Qualifications for Board Members:

  1. Successfully complete and pass Course 101: Introduction to Assessment Administration – Law, Procedures, and Valuation, a basic training program required by the Division of Local Services.
  2. Determine the full and fair cash value of all real and personal property within the municipality
  3. Participate in the triennial certification of property values overseen by the Department of Revenue.
  4. Be appointed by the Town Manager to a three-year term on the three-member Board of Assessors.

Sewer Commission

The Sewer Commission is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, operation, and maintenance of the town's public sewer system. The Commission ensures that wastewater is collected, treated, and discharged in a way that protects public health, the environment, and local waterways. 

They play a vital role in managing the Sewer Enterprise Fund, which operates as a self-sustaining entity, using user fees to fund system improvements, repairs, and day-to-day operations without relying on general tax revenue. Working closely with the Sewer Superintendent, the Commission provides guidance on policies, reviews permits, and coordinates with engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Together, they help ensure that the town’s sewer services are reliable, efficient, and aligned with the town’s long-term growth and environmental sustainability goals.
