Kate Kamer grew up around people with serious sewing skills.
“My dad’s side did dressmaking, and my mom’s side did quilting and blankets,” Kate says. “It’s in my blood.”
For 13 years, Kate ran her own tailoring business from her parents’ home in Lowell. Earlier this year, she decided to venture out and get her own place. Her search brought her to Dracut, only about a half mile from her parents’ house.
Turns out Dracut was tailor-made for Kate. In June, she opened KK Tailoring & Custom Design at 434 Textile Avenue, and on July 20, Dracut Economic Development held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome KK to town.
Kate’s journey started at Greater Lowell Technical High School, where she studied fashion design. She then studied with a master tailor to lean the finer points of menswear.
At her shop, which formerly housed Ron’s Gun Shop and Snip N Stitch Quilt Shop, among other businesses, Kate offers tailoring for men, women and children, as well as tuxedo rentals.
