Imperial Image leaves imprint in Dracut

Dracut Economic Development holds a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Imperial Image.

After close to 30 years in business in North Chelmsford, Imperial Image Commercial Printing found itself having to hit the bricks when a new owner took over the mill building at 55 Middlesex Street where it conducted its business.

Luckily, they found space in another mill building – the Navy Yard Mill, 19 School Street, in Dracut.

Dracut Economic Development held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 11 to welcome Imperial Image to town.

Having grown up in Stoneham, Anthony DeMarco, president of Imperial Image, started the company in North Reading as a place for companies to have their business cards designed and printed, but in less than a year it outgrew that space, so he moved to North Chelmsford.

With much of the printing business done digitally these days, he was looking to downsize anyway. But to do so at the same location, the landlord was going to charge him the same rent for about half the space.

At about the same time, Joe DiCarlo, owner of the Navy Yard Mill, found himself with about 5,000 vacant square feet after the nonprofit Catie’s Closet moved its headquarters across town to 28 Loon Hill Road.

Anthony said business cards are still a large part of what Imperial Image does. He said the technology has changed over the years, so that new employees at a company can order their own cards off a template the company has approved.

“It gives them a website where they can go and order a business card that looks aesthetically pleasing for the company,” Anthony said.

“It takes ordering the business cards away from office managers,” said Zack DeMarco, Anthony’s son and Imperial Image’s general manager.

Of course, there’s more to Imperial Image than business cards. They also print everything from bookmarks to calendars, envelopes to invitations, and their in-house team can help clients design logos, newsletters, postcards – even websites.
