Just to be clear, there is no Budnick in Brown & Budnick Meats. But according to Jeff Brown (one of two Browns), that doesn’t stop people from calling the butcher shop/deli “Budnick’s.”
Jeff and his brother, Rick, opened Brown & Budnick’s at Bridgewood Plaza on upper Bridge Street 22 years ago. Before that, their father worked for a slaughterhouse owned by a man named Budnick, so they kept the name when they opened their Dracut shop.
“I have people come in and they’re on the phone, and they’ll say, ‘I’m at Budnick’s,’” Jeff says. “Hey, whatever, as long as they’re here.”
B&B’s is chock-full of several different kinds of marinated steak tips and chicken breasts, and, with fall here, plenty of stuffed items as well.
“People like to come here and buy something they can just throw on the grill or in the oven, something that’s all ready to cook at home,” Jeff says.
Brown & Budnick’s is also a deli, serving Boar’s Head products, so check them out for lunch. And while you’re there, check out the signs hanging behind the counter; they’re always good for a chuckle.
“Dracut is one of those towns that, as long as you have good products at fair prices – and that’s Business 101, really – they’re gonna return,” Jeff says.
