If you drive north on Mammoth Road just past the lights at Lakeview Avenue, you may have noticed a small trailer parked in the grassy area next to Friendly Barry’s Gas Station, 1225 Mammoth Road.
Inside that trailer you will find Andreia Gonzalez preparing churros, funnel cakes, hot dogs and more.
Happy Churros will be parked at that spot for the foreseeable future, and if you’ve ever had a churro or funnel cake, you’ll be pulling over sooner rather than later. If you’ve never experienced either delicacy, all the more reason to pull over and cross that off your bucket list.
Andreia opened the trailer on September 15, and after experimenting with the schedule for a few days, her hours will be Thursday, noon-7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, noon-8 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-7 p.m.
“I’m getting used to the routine, trying to figure out what the best times are,” Andreia said.
Churros are similar to fried dough, though shaped differently. Pastry dough is piped into hot oil with a piping bag. At Happy Churros, you can get them filled with chocolate of dulce de leche.
Funnel cakes are made by pouring a pancake-like batter through a funnel into hot oil. At Happy Churros, the result can be topped with powdered sugar or you can go all in by adding strawberries, chocolate syrup and whipped cream.
Hot dogs (with or without bacon) and BLTs are also available, and Andreia may expand the menu depending on people’s preferences.
