This Department’s responsibilities include the protection of the health, safety and welfare of residents through the enforcement of the Dracut Zoning By-law, the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR), MA Sheet Metal Regulations (271 CMR) and the MA Architectural Access Board Regulations (521 CMR).
We are responsible for issuing permits for the construction of all public and private buildings, alterations and additions, pools, garages, etc. These are followed up with inspections to ensure compliance.
We also conduct periodic inspections of businesses and buildings where required, issue zoning determinations for proposed businesses and structures and investigate zoning and code-related complaints as required.
