Senior Property Tax Work Off Program 

2024 Guidelines

A program where Dracut seniors can earn up to a $600 tax credit toward their 2025 property tax bill by completing 60 hours of service in a town department.

Program Eligibility:

  • Be 60 years or older.
  • Be a homeowner or current spouse of homeowner.
    • If your home is in a trust, you must be a Trustee and Beneficiary of the Trust
  • Reside in the Town of Dracut
  • Occupy the property for which the property taxes are paid.
  • Be retired and not working as of January 1, 2023
  • Not be receiving any other abatement or exemption from the Town of Dracut
  • Total income cannot exceed MA 2023 Circuit Breaker Credit income levels
    • $64,000 for a single individual who is not head of household.
    • $80,000 for a head of household
    • $96,000 for married couples filing jointly.


  • A maximum of 55 seniors can participate in this program annually
  • Applications are accepted beginning December 1st 2023
  • To apply, fill out the Senior Property Tax Work Off Application (reverse of this page)
  • Submit application to the Dracut Senior Center
    • Include a copy of your most recent property tax bill
    • Include a copy of your 2022 Federal Tax Return (the first 2 pages of your 1040)
      • If you do not have your tax return or do not file one please fill out a 4506T available at the Senior Center. This form is then faxed to the IRS. IRS will then send verification to your address of record. Provide this verification to the Senior Center when received.
  • Applications are accepted until 3:30 PM on December 29th, 2023 at the Dracut Senior Center, 951 Mammoth Road
    • If 54 seniors or less apply and are deemed eligible, applications will then continue to be accepted until all slots are filled
    • If 56 or more seniors apply and are deemed eligible, a lottery system will be used to fill the 55 slots. If any seniors selected drop out of the program, the seniors not selected will be entered into a lottery again to fill that open slot.

Placement & Hours Completion:

  • Once you have been deemed eligible, and selected if there is a lottery, the COA director will work with you to match you with an open position within a town department.
  • You must then complete your 60 hours by October 31st, 2024, in order to receive the full $600 of your 2025 property tax bill. If you complete less than 60 hours your stipend will be pro-rated at the rate of $10/hour
    • A Proxy can be named to complete hours on a participant’s behalf. Contact COA for more details.
    • The town employee you have been reporting to will sign off on your hours and return the certification of completion form to the Senior Center on or before 11/5/2024.
  • Work Off participants need to fill out the application and submit required documents annually.
