The Building Department responsibilities include the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the residents through the enforcement of State and Local laws, by-laws and regulations. The Department issues permits for and conducts inspections of all construction regulated by the State Building Code, conducts periodic inspections of public buildings as required, and enforces conditions on Special Permits and variances issued pursuant to the Town Zoning Bylaw.
The Community Development Director acts as the first point of contact for residential development proposals. The Director reviews proposals and makes recommendations to the Planning Board and the Board of Selectmen on all application for Special Permits and Site Plan approval applications. Assists landowners, attorneys, engineers, real estate agents and potential buyers with the development process. Coordinates efforts with regional planning, policy and funding decisions. Provides support for planning and economic development throughout the Town.
