In 1993, David Chandonnet opened Dracut Music Centre in the Country Village plaza at 465 Nashua Road, offering lessons, sales and repair of instruments, and a chance for him to make a career out of his passion.
These days, David is preparing for the coda of that career. He plans to close up shop by the end of the year, nearly 33 years after Dracut Music Centre’s first notes were struck.
David and his wife, residents of Tewksbury for many years, recently moved to Franklin, N.H., and decided it was the right time to retire.
David would like to find good homes for everything in the store, and for those looking for affordable musical instruments, perhaps as gifts for the holiday season, there’s a good chance you’ll find a deal.
“I’m selling the entire stock,” he said. “Everything discounted. I’d rather pass it on to people who have supported me over the years. No reasonable offer will be refused.”
That includes the guitars, horns, drums – everything in the store.
He even has a piano he’s offering free – you just need to pick it up and haul it out.
“It’s first come, first served,” he said.
That even includes the lighted display case that was built by his father when David first opened the store, and a mini-Coke machine.
Over the years, Dracut Music Centre has offered lessons in guitar, bass guitar, violin, viola, cello, banjo, ukulele, piano, organ, drums, clarinet, flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, music theory and voice.
David graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Class of 1986, with a Bachelor’s degree in Music and immediately embarked on a career in music, offering lessons on his own before opening Dracut Music Centre.
He is thankful for those who have entrusted their and their children’s musical education to him and his staff of instructors through the decades, and the clearance sale is his way of showing his appreciation while ensuring that his stock goes to people who will be able to use it.
